November 22, 2009: Q-25 Pylon Series Race #8 (The Finals) at FW Thunderbirds Club Field, Benbrook, TX. 1:00PM-4:30PM. This is the eighth of eight races for the 2009 series. This years series is a best 6 of 8 races. Pylons up & practice starts by 11:30AM. Pilots should arrive by 12:00PM to get their aircraft ready, inspected, and registered. Pilots Meeting starts at 1:00PM, 1st heat race starts at 1:30PM sharp. CD - Gary Alphin & Gene Hodges. November 22, 2009: Q-25 Pylon Series Race #8 (The Finals) at FW Thunderbirds Field - Benbrook, TX. What a way to end our pylon racing season. (15) pilots from (6) clubs came out on this cool humid cloudy day to race. We gave the spectators their moneys worth! There was plenty of rubbing going on at this event as pilots jockeyed for positions, not only for this race but for the 2009 overall series championship.

Round 1 - Heat 1 started off with a BANG! It started with four racers and ended with only one. Congratulations to Jim Pope #85 for his win and surviving this heat. Debris flew from the start as Jerry Stafford (RRCC) crashed right after takeoff. Then Gene Hodges #44 - TxWings and Darrell Barabash #14 - 114th Aero littered the field with racer parts in a spectacular midair starting lap two going around the South pylon. The day continued with several other events of rubbing. Tim Hammonds #21 - TxWings and Bob Hubbard #74 - 114th Aero both had their tails cut/broken in two separate rubbing incidents, the other two planes involved were undamaged. The final injury of the day as a damaged landing gear on Duane Riedel #38 - STRCC racer during landing after round 3 heat race, he was out for the day. Since this was the last race of our 2009 season most guys only brought or had one racer so we had to run some 2 plane heats to finish out the day, but everyone had a great time. All the pilots who lost racers said they will build new ones and are looking forward to racing in 2010.

Special thanks to our hosting clubs, race officials, pylon judges, volunteers, pilots, and spectators. Thank you again to those who supported, enjoyed, and made our Q-25 pylon races possible. We couldn't have done it without all of you!
